Conservation websites and projects

The Fiordland Conservation Trust is looking for sponsors to raise money on behalf of direct conservation projects.

The Pomona Island Charitable Trust is looking after Pomana and Rona Islands on Lake Manapouri.

Kids Restore the Kepler is a major conservation project with a difference. As well as having conservation goals seeking to restore birdsong in the area, the project also has a strong education focus. The project aims to help Fiordland's young people, from pre-school through to college, develop knowledge, values and skills so they can be confident, connected and actively involved in caring for their environment. Imagine a 3000 hectare prime piece of habitat made safe for NZ birds, insects, lizards and bats. 

In Preservation Inlet is Coal Island. It is managed by Te Puka-Hereka (The Tied Anchor) South West New Zealand Endangered Species Charitable Trust

Southland branch of Forest & Bird - several conservation activities

Rakatu Wetlands - it is regenerating area on Manapouri - Monowai Highway - this and other sites are managed by Waiau Trust

Stoat Trapping Project
  - initiative of Johan and Joyce of Wairaurahiry Jet - stoat-trapping operation along the Wairaurahiri River and South Coast Track to restore native bird populations.

Milford Community Stoat Trapping - stoat trapping to protect blue duck with trap lines along Cleddau, Tutoko and Gulliver Rivers. Ivolved are local Trips and Tramps - and other local businesses and residents.

Southland Tramping Club - Murchison Mountains trapping programe in cooperation with DOC. Become member of the club and join us in improving of takahe habitat.
